Facial Enhancement with Botox

What is Botox therapy?

Botox therapy is a quick and simple non-surgical procedure that involves injections of Botox on the selected facial muscles using a very fine needle.

Botox is a natural purified protein that relaxes wrinkling muscles, resulting in a smoothed and more youthful appearance.

Where can it be used?

Botox is widely used in facial enhancement, such as for:

  • elimination of frown lines and forehead wrinkles
  • unfolding crow's feet (smile lines around the eyes)
  • reducing neck folds and chin creases
  • bitterness lines (marionette lines)
  • bunny lines (nasal crunch)
  • excessive sweating (palm, armpit etc)
  • facial contouring (square jaw)
  • chemical brow lift (arches & flared brow)
  • prominent lower eyelid
  • perioral lines

Who can use Botox?

Botox is equally effective on men and women. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for patients with a history of neuromuscular disease, or who are currently taking aminoglycoside antibiotics or penicillamine.

How long is the procedure?

About 10 – 15 minutes.

After the procedure:

  • After receiving Botox, it is recommended you maintain an upright posture for at least 4 hours.
  • It is recommended that you do not rub vigorously or massage the treated area. However, moving the facial muscles of the treated area will help to enhance the response of Botox at the targeted muscles.

Are there any side effects?

  • Most patients have no complaints.
  • Some of the side effects like mild bruising are temporary and localised to the area of injections, and can be easily covered with make up.
  • Occasionally, you may experience pain at the injection sites or mild transient headache, lasting less than 24hrs, which may be relieved with paracetamol.
  • There have been no reported cases of permanent side effects of Botox.

How soon can I expect to see the effects?

  • The results are apparent gradually within 3-5 days.
  • Full effect is achieved around 7-10 days.
  • Effect of Botox lasts 3-6 months depending on the individual.

What happens if I did not continue treatment?

  • The result will wear off gradually after about 4-6 months.
  • The expression lines will slowly return to the pretreatment appearance.
  • There will be no worsening of the wrinkles.
