What is Liposuction?
Also known as ‘lipoplasty’ or ‘suction lipectomy’, liposuction is a surgical procedure whereby the body is sculpted by removing unwanted fat from certain body parts.
Liposuction is not a substitute for weight loss but it can eliminate areas of fat which are unresponsive to normal weight loss techniques.

- Buttocks
- Thighs
- Upper arms
- Neck and chin
Who can use Liposuction?
Liposuction is ideal for patients who have bulges after diet and exercise. It is best suited for people who are not that overweight or even at ideal body weight but have an area of fat that just won’t shift despite much exercise or dieting.
How long is the procedure?
It depends on the area to be treated. Surgery can last from 1-3 hours but it is advisable to allocate a whole day for pre and post-operative care and procedures.
After the procedure:
- Wear your pressure garment at all times even when sleeping for 4 weeks.
- You are recommended to take 1-2 weeks leave after the surgery before returning to work.
- Strenuous activity may be resumed after 3-4 weeks following surgery.
Are there any side effects?
All surgeries carry some extent of risk. Some of them include:
- Infection
- Fluid retention
- Pigmentation changes
- Bagginess of the skin
- Bruising which will dissipate after 1 month
- Mild pain may be felt after surgery but medication will be prescribed for relief
How soon can I expect to see the effects?
After time is allowed for healing to occur. The optimal result is seen in 6 months after the procedure.
