Endodontics

EndodonticsEndodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with diseases of the tooth root, dental pulp, and surrounding tissue. Teeth are composed of a hard structure surrounding a soft, living tissue called the pulp (also called the “nerve”). The pulp contains nerves, blood vessels and connective tissues. When the pulp become diseased or injured and eventually dies, endodontic treatment will be required to save the tooth.

Root canal therapy is the most common procedure done by an endodontist to remove the infected pulp and nerves from the tooth’s root canal. Other procedures include endodontic retreatment and endodontic surgery to prevent extractions.
