Dr Nur Farhan Bte Mohammad Alami
Falls and frailty, incontinence, depression, delirium, dementia and deconditioning in the elderly
Dr Nur Farhan is accredited as a specialist in Geriatric Medicine by the Specialist Accreditation Board. Her qualifications include MBBS (Singapore) and MRCP (UK). Dr Nur Farhan is accredited as a certificate issuer of LPA (Lasting Power of Attorney) by the Office of the Public Guardian.
Prior to joining Raffles Hospital, Dr Nur Farhan was a Geriatrician at Changi General Hospital. She was appointed Clinical Lecturer at NUS and core faculty member of the Singhealth Senior Residency Program in Geriatric Medicine.
She has experience in managing internal medicine in adults, as well as acute and chronic general medical issues in the elderly. Her interests include falls and frailty, incontinence, depression, delirium, dementia and deconditioning in the elderly. She is also experienced in managing end of life issues in the elderly including end stage organ disease, advanced care planning and palliative medicine.
Dr Nur Farhan believes in person centered care and effective communication. She is multilingual and fluent in English, Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia. She has been published in local newspapers including Berita Harian, has appeared in local info-education programs on local television as well as given public health talks to promote health awareness and the importance of early detection of illnesses. She is also involved in clinical research and her work has been presented and published in various international conferences including the Journal of the American Geriatric Society.
Dr Farhan has a special interest in the care of an older person with cancer. She has a diploma in geriatric oncology awarded by SIOG, International Society of Geriatric Oncology. She is able to optimize care of an older person with cancer at different stages of cancer treatment. This would include optimizing nutrition and function before cancer surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy. She is able to adjust medications and manage preexisting medical conditions that the person has which may be affected by cancer treatment. She is able to diagnose and manage complications of cancer therapy such as memory problems, mood disorders including depression, swallowing and eating problems, weakness and pain.
