Dr Stephen Tsao Kin Kwok

Screening and surveillance of oesophageal, stomach and colorectal cancer, advanced image enhanced endoscopy, endoscopic submucosal resection (EMR), and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD).

Profile:

Dr Stephen Tsao is a Specialist in Gastroenterology. He graduated from the University of Leicester in 1996 and completed his specialist training in 2008.  He obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in London, United Kingdom (UK) in 2000, and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2012. Dr Tsao also completed a fellowship programme from the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology at Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine  in 2010.

Prior to joining Raffles Hospital, Dr Tsao was Senior Consultant in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). He served as the Director of Endoscopy Centre at TTSH from 2019 to 2022 and was also the Head of Gastroenterology in Woodlands Health Hospital from 2020 to 2022.

Outside of his clinical practice, Dr Tsao is heavily involved with the Gastroenterology Society of Singapore (GESS) and has held various positions since 2011. As the current President-elect of GESS, Dr Tsao will assume the role of President from August 2023. Dr Tsao also served as an Associate Professor at Nanyang Technological University’s Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and Senior Lecturer at National University of Singapore’s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

Dr Tsao specialises in advanced diagnostic endoscopy and endoscopic resection techniques such as the Endoscopic Submucosal Resection (EMR) and Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD), for the removal of early gastrointestinal cancers by endoscope. Recognised as a loco-regional expert in this field, Dr Tsao has been invited to local and overseas meetings for demonstrations of the ESD technique.  He is also involved in the training of local and overseas doctors in this technique.
