Swab And Send Home (SASH)

COVID-19 testing under the Swab And Send Home (SASH) initiative is now available at selected Raffles Medical Public Health Preparedness Clinics (PHPCs). If you are assessed to have symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 infection, your General Practitioner (GP) will perform a swab test on you at the clinic if the clinic is participating in SASH. Otherwise, you will be referred to another PHPC where SASH is available, for a review by the next day.

Requests and referrals for COIVD-19 testing for those who are asymptomatic are not allowed (eg. worried well, for immigration clearance, employer’s request).

If you are referred for SASH at another clinic, do call the SASH PHPC prior and bring along your identification documents, and the completed referral letter.

Where should I go for the swab test, with the referral letter from GP?

GPs have been advised to refer patients to the nearest operating facility, so as to minimise travel and exposure to other members of the public, as well as avoid delays to being tested. Selected Raffles Medical clinics are SASH PHPCs.

Please take note of the operating hours of the clinic you wish to visit. We advise you to make an appointment before going to the clinic.

I have paid for my consultation at the first GP, during which I was given a referral to be swabbed at another clinic. Do I need to pay for the consultation and swab test at the second clinic that I will go to for the swabbing?

You are advised to present yourself at the SASH PHPC within 24 hours of your first visit at the first GP clinic. You will be allowed up to 48 hours from your visit at the first GP clinic to do so. If you present yourself within 48 hours of your referring visit with a completed referral form, you do not need to pay for the consultation and swab at the receiving SASH PHPC.

However, if you i) present at the SASH PHPC past 48 hours from your visit at the first GP clinic, or ii) do not bring along a completed referral form provided by the first GP, you will need to be reviewed by the SASH PHPC again.

In this case, you will be charged as per a regular Flu Subsidy Scheme (FSS)/Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) Acute visit. If you are not eligible for FSS or CHAS, the consultation fee charged by the SASH PHPC applies.

If you wish to be treated for other non-Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) conditions at the second clinic, you will be charged for consultation and medication separately.

What documents should I bring to the second GP (SASH PHPC) where I go for the swab test?

Please bring along the referral form completed by the first (referring) GP and your NRIC, to present to the second GP (SASH PHPC).

Will I definitely get a swab if I present to the second GP (SASH PHPC) with a referral letter from the referring GP?

Both the referring and receiving GPs are responsible for ensuring that patients are suitable for SASH. Therefore, the receiving SASH GP will make a further assessment to ascertain whether you remain suitable for SASH at the point of your visit before performing the swab. You are not required to make any payment at the second GP (SASH PHPC) whether or not a swab is performed.

How would I be informed of the swab results?

The second GP (SASH PHPC) will inform you of your swab results.
