Treatment Methods

We endeavour to deliver treatments that are effective and safe. Our experienced physicians are well qualified to use a range of established TCM treatment methods that include:
chinese herbal medicineOur physicians prescribe personalised herbal medicine to address unhealthy body patterns that manifest through a variety of symptoms and complaints. Chinese herbal medicine therapy aims to help you regain homeostasis, or balance, in your body and to strengthen your body’s resistance to disease.

Herbal prescriptions are mostly packed in sachets which are filled with purified and concentrated extracts of raw herbs. Consumption is convenient: simply dissolve the required sachet/s in hot water. Where prescriptions involve commonly-used formulas, the associated herbal medicine may come in pill or capsule form.
acupunctureAcupuncture draws on the TCM concept that energy, also called Qi, circulates throughout our body along energetic pathways called meridians. When we are in good health, this energy flows unobstructed along the meridians. Each meridian is believed to be connected to a specific organ system. When an energy flow is disrupted by a pathogen – an infectious agent or germ – or an injury, the body will suffer from illness or pain.

Acupuncture uses thin, sterile needles to penetrate and stimulate specific acupoints along the meridians to restore internal balance and stimulate our body’s natural ability to heal. Through our trained physicians and acupuncturists, this treatment is carried out hygienically and safely.

Auricular Therapy
Auricular therapy is a therapeutic method in which needles are inserted into specific points on the ear to treat various disorders of the body. TCM believes that the ear is a microcosm of the whole body. When the organs are in disharmony, it will be reflected on the auricle of the ear. By stimulating acupoints on the ear, the body's internal organs, structures, and functions can be regulated. Auricular therapy is widely used for many conditions including: addiction treatment, mood disorders, obesity, pain, and many other conditions.

Ear acupuncture points may be stimulated for a longer period of time by using ear seeds. Ear seeds are small seeds from the Vaccaria plant. These seeds are held in place on the ear with a small piece of adhesive tape. Ear seeds may be replaced every four to seven days. To enhance effect, pressing on the pellets could be done two to three times a day. Gentle pressure is to be applied to each pellet for one minute during
each pressing cycle.

moxibustionMoxibustion is a preventive and therapeutic treatment. Its purpose is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of Qi and maintain general health. Moxibustion involves applying heat with moxa wool to certain acupoints to cause stimulation.
cupping-therapyCupping is the method of applying pressure on an acupoint by creating a vacuum on the surface of the patient’s skin to generate stimulation. This process improves Qi and blood flow. This therapy is often used to relieve neck and shoulder tightness and backaches. It is also effective when complemented with acupuncture or Chinese herbal therapy, especially for weight loss, acne and general well-being.

tuina-therapyTui Na therapy, or Chinese therapeutic massage, works on the energy channels and points. It uses the same principles as acupuncture, except that hands and fingers are used instead of needles. Through a combination of massage and acupressure, Tui Na applies pressure to acupoints, meridians and groups of muscles or nerves to remove blockages that prevent the free flow of Qi. Many health problems are caused by such blockages, leading to pain, swelling and the build-up of toxins. Tui Na is best suited for treating certain types of chronic pain, musculoskeletal conditions and stress-related disorders.

To ensure that Tui Na therapy is safely administered, the following conditions are excluded from this treatment:

  • Suspected fractures, strains, and injuries that are accompanied with neural signs;
  • Tumours, tuberculosis and bone infections;
  • Early acute joint sprains with severe swelling;
  • Acute soft tissue contusions with severe swelling;
  • Severe heart and lung disease;
  • Bleeding or blood vessel disorders;
  • Presence of infected skin and wounds in the selected region;
  • Pregnancy or during menstruation – it is not appropriate to stimulate the pelvic region;
  • Elderly people with weak constitutions or osteoporosis;

Paediatric_massageTCM Paediatric Massage Therapy is specifically designed to prevent and treat paediatric diseases by using a special repertoire of acupoints that are specific and particularly beneficial to children aged from six months to 12 years old. This technique enhances a child’s energy flow by applying massage to activate the various acupoints instead of using needles. Besides treating illnesses, this therapy helps to promote the vitality of the body's immunity system, improve the functions of organs and increase disease-resistance ability, all of which act synergistically to effectively prevent and treat ailments.
