What is EmbryoGlue®?
EmbryoGlue® is a specialised solution used during embryo transfer that closely replicates the natural environment of the uterus. It contains a high concentration of hyaluronan, a substance found naturally in the human body that plays a key role in cell adhesion and tissue hydration.
Despite its name, EmbryoGlue® is not a literal adhesive. Instead, it creates optimal conditions to help the embryo attach to the uterine lining and supporting one of the most crucial moments in In-Vitro fertilisation (IVF).
How does it work?
EmbryoGlue® contains the following components:
- Hyaluronan: Promotes embryo adhesion and mimics uterine conditions
- Recombinant human albumin: Provides essential nourishment
- Viscous consistency: Stabilises the embryo within the uterus
Together, these components help create a nurturing environment that supports implantation.
Who may benefit?
EmbryoGlue® may be especially helpful for patients:
- Over the age of 35
- Have experienced previous implantation failures
- Have unexplained infertility
- Undergoing IVF or ICSI procedures
- Looking to transfer cryopreserved embryos / blastocysts
This is suitable for embryos at various developmental stages, including blastocysts and those that have undergone assisted hatching.
Benefits of EmbryoGlue®
Clinical studies have shown that using hyaluronan-enriched transfer media like EmbryoGlue® can:
- Increase clinical pregnancy and live birth rates
- Improve embryo stability post-transfer

A Cochrane review found that EmbryoGlue® increased live birth rates from 33.3 per cent to 40.2 per cent, with one additional baby born for every 14 transfers.
What to expect during your procedure
The embryo selected for transfer will be placed in EmbryoGlue® and briefly cultured before being gently transferred into the uterus using a fine catheter. The procedure remains the same as a standard embryo transfer, with the only difference being the enhanced medium used to support implantation.
