Chemical Peel

What is chemical peel?

A cosmetic peel involves the application of a chemical solution to remove the outer layer of the skin for treatment of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Open pores
  • Comedonal acne
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Mild acne scarring
skin conditions for chemical peel

Is the procedure painful?

No, but you will typically experience a warm sensation as the acid works into your skin. A stinging sensation can be felt if stronger acid solutions are used.

A cold towel, is placed on the skin at the end of the procedure.

How long does the procedure last?

The whole procedure lasts approximately 30 minutes including cooling down. No dressings are needed.

What happens after the chemical peel?

You can return to work after the chemical peel. Your skin may feel tight or sunburned and there may be redness.

A proper skin regimen of cleansing, moisturising, and using of sunscreen is recommended after a peel. Sun exposure should be avoided.

Over the next few days, the skin will start exfoliating (not visibly), revealing a smoother and more youthful skin underneath. The outer layer of dull, unhealthy skin is removed, and a new radiant layer of skin replaces it.

How frequent should one undergo this procedure?

This depends on the condition of the skin. A minimum of three treatments with an interval of about four weeks would normally bring out the best results. Creams containing retinoid and other exfoliating products should be avoided at least 3 days prior to the treatment.
