Profile:

Dr Choo is a Specialist in Respiratory Medicine. He received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom (UK) in 2000. He then continued his specialty training in respiratory medicine and internal medicine at various institutions across NHS Trust Hospitals in the UK, and obtained his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2010.

Prior to joining Raffles Hospital, Dr Choo was Senior Consultant and Head, Division of Respiratory Medicine at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH), where he was awarded multiple service accolades as a testament to his commitment to clinical service excellence. Dr Choo served as the medical lead for NTFGH Clinical Practice Guideline Workgroup’s project on “Standardisation of care for asthma / COPD”. He was also the lead for the assessment of patients as part of the hospital’s JCI Hospital Standard benchmarking exercise. As Chairperson of the NTFGH Endocentre Committee, he has led the development of advanced diagnostic endoscopy procedures at the hospital.

Besides clinical work, Dr Choo is also active in academia and medical training. He is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the National University of Singapore’s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Associate Programme Director for Respiratory Medicine Senior Residency Programme at National University Hospital System, and supervisor for the Advanced Practice Nurse Clinical Training Programme at NTFGH. At a national level, he serves as an Executive Committee Member of the Singapore Thoracic Society, a role that enables him to promote the knowledge of lung health and good practices among respiratory medicine doctors in the country.

Dr Choo has clinical interests in chronic cough, airway diseases, interstitial lung diseases, and advanced diagnostic endoscopy procedures. He is proficient in performing advanced diagnostic bronchoscopy (EBUS) and medical thoracoscopy.
