Dr Eberta Tan Jun Hui

Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Diabetes Mellitus in Pregnancy

Profile:

Dr Tan is a Specialist in Endocrinology. She graduated from National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2004, attained membership to the Royal College of Physicians, UK in 2008 and completed her postgraduate training in Endocrinology in 2013. Her fellowship year was spent in the Leeds Hospitals, UK with the diabetes in pregnancy, pre-conception diabetes and insulin pump clinics.

Dr Tan worked as a Consultant in the Department of Endocrinology at Changi General Hospital (CGH) from 2014 to 2021. She was the Assistant Director and subsequently Director of the Diabetes Mellitus Centre in CGH from 2015 to 2021, and Co-Lead in Specialist care of the SingHealth Duke-NUS Diabetes Centre from 2017 to 2021. She was also the Lead Clinician for diabetes in pregnancy service, intensive insulin therapy, and insulin pump clinics in CGH.

Dr Tan was the Co-Lead of the Inpatient Hypoglycaemia Prevention Taskforce under the MOH Singapore Healthcare Improvement Network and her team was awarded multiple awards for their work in the significant reduction of inpatient hypoglycaemia, and for ensuring rapid recovery of inpatients from hypoglycaemia. In recognition of her dedication to high standards in patient care, she received the Singapore Health Quality Service Award (Gold) in 2019. She has also organised and co-run patient education workshops geared towards the empowerment of patients on intensive insulin therapy, with her team of diabetes nurse educators and dietitians. She strongly believes that empowering her patients through education, engagement, effective use of diabetes technology, and other available resources is key to their best outcomes.

Dr Tan served as Clinical Senior Lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS, clinical teacher and Hospital Endocrinology Posting Lead at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. She was also a member of the Clinical Core Faculty for SingHealth Endocrinology Senior Residency Programme.

Her medical expertise includes diagnosis and treatment of endocrinological problems such as diabetes mellitus, obesity, thyroid disorders, androgen, adrenal and pituitary disease. Dr Tan’s subspecialty interests are type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus and diabetes mellitus in pregnancy. She is trained in the initiation and management of patients requiring insulin pump and continuous glucose monitoring systems, including their use through pregnancy.
