Dr Huang Wanping is a Senior Principal Psychologist with over 20 years of experience in Singapore’s public healthcare system. She previously practised at the Institute of Mental Health and Tan Tock Seng Hospital where she served as Head of the Department of Psychology for seven years. In 2008, she was awarded the Ministry of Health’s Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship for her postgraduate training. She holds a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Neuropsychology from Macquarie University, Australia.

Dr Huang specialises in neuropsychological rehabilitation, supporting individuals with traumatic brain injury, stroke, and other neurological conditions. She is experienced in helping individuals navigate the psychological impact of medical illnesses, including challenges related to coping, adjustment, and emotional well-being. Her clinical practice is grounded in a person-centred, collaborative approach, with a focus on helping individuals achieve outcomes that are meaningful and sustainable.

She has a subspecialty in behavioural sleep medicine, recognising sleep as a foundational pillar of health, recovery, and long-term well-being. Dr Huang has undertaken advanced training and continues to receive consultation from leading experts in the United States, ensuring her practice remains aligned with current evidence-based standards.

She is a skilled practitioner of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), the gold-standard, evidence-based non-pharmacological treatment for insomnia. She helps individuals improve sleep quality, reduce reliance on medication, and regain confidence in their ability to sleep naturally. Her clinical experience spans a range of sleep conditions, including acute and chronic insomnia, circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders, shift work sleep disorder, parasomnias such as nightmare disorder, and challenges with CPAP adherence in obstructive sleep apnea.

Her clinical expertise also includes the management of anxiety, depression, stress, emotional dysregulation, anger management, grief and loss, as well as and cognitive rehabilitation.

Known for her thoughtful and collaborative style, Dr Huang works closely with multi-disciplinary teams to provide holistic, evidence-based care. She is passionate about helping individuals optimise sleep, build resilience, and improve overall health and quality of life. By integrating neuropsychological expertise with behavioural sleep interventions, Dr Huang is well placed to support individuals with complex or overlapping clinical needs. She is a strong advocate for early psychological intervention to support adjustment, prevent downstream complications, and optimise long-term outcomes. Her approach focuses on understanding each individual’s unique challenges while delivering practical, evidence-based strategies that create meaningful and lasting improvement. Dr Huang is committed to fostering a therapeutic environment that prioritises what matters to the individual, helping them feel understood, empowered, and confident in their journey towards better health.

Beyond clinical practice, Dr Huang has made significant contributions to healthcare innovation, workforce development, and community capability building. Her contributions to healthcare and community have been recognised with the National Day Award (Commendation Medal) in 2024.
