Profile:

Dr Jimmy Ong is a Specialist in Cardiology and Intensive Care Medicine. He graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2004. He accomplished his basic medical training in Singapore and was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of London, and Master in Medicine (Internal Medicine) in Singapore in 2009. Dr Ong was awarded the Health Manpower Development Award by the Ministry of Health to pursue his fellowship at The Alfred Intensive Care Unit in Australia. He was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, after completing his Advanced Specialty Training for Cardiology in 2013 and Intensive Care Medicine in 2016.

Dr Ong was formerly a Senior Consultant at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH). During his appointment at NTFGH, he led and oversaw the pulmonary embolism response team, pulmonary thrombectomy service, pulmonary hypertension service, and cardiac critical care. He is skilled in ultrasound-assisted thrombolysis and suction thrombectomy for treatment of acute pulmonary embolism.

Besides clinical work, Dr Ong has authored and co-authored several publications in various cardiology conferences and medical journals. He further served as a faculty member of the Cardiology Senior Residency Programme at the National University Heart Centre and the National Targeted Temperature Management Workgroup.

Dr Ong’s clinical expertise includes general cardiology, acute coronary syndrome, ischaemic and valvular heart diseases, acute and chronic heart failure, right heart failure, cardiogenic shock, low cardiac output syndrome, haemodynamic tailored therapy, pulmonary embolism, percutaneous pulmonary thrombectomy, catheter directed thrombolysis, pulmonary hypertension, critical care cardiology, and intensive care. He is also trained in stress and transesophageal echocardiography.
