Profile:
Dr Carmen Gan is a Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a special interest in gynaecological oncology. She completed her medical degree at the University of Sheffield and underwent specialist training in the East Midlands Deanery, United Kingdom, before pursuing further training in gynaecological oncology. Dr Gan achieved membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2011.
Prior to joining Raffles Hospital, Dr Gan was a Consultant at Nottingham University Hospital. She served as the robotic surgery lead in her department where she regularly performed robotic-assisted procedures for gynaecological malignancies and complex benign conditions.
Dr Gan was actively involved in clinical research, having completed a research fellowship in London. She published in peer-reviewed journals on ovarian cancer prevention, BReast CAncer (BRCA) mutations, and surgical outcomes. She helped run a familial history clinic and contributed to the development of Lynch syndrome testing pathways for endometrial cancer patients. Dr Gan committed to education by mentoring trainees and medical students, and regularly contributed to departmental quality improvement initiatives including overseeing morbidity and mortality reviews, and updating clinical guidelines.
Dr Gan specialises in the comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of gynaecological cancers and complex gynaecological conditions, with expertise spanning advanced laparoscopic, open and robotic surgery, including multi-visceral cytoreductive procedures for advanced ovarian cancer. Dr Gan also completed the British Menopause Society’s menopause module, enhancing her knowledge in providing evidence-based menopause care. This allows her to support women with tailored advice on lifestyle, symptom management, and the safe, effective use of hormone replacement therapy and non-hormonal options.
Dr Gan is fluent in English, Mandarin, Malay, Cantonese, and Hokkien.
