Profile:

Dr Lim Yun Chin is a Specialist in Psychiatry. He obtained his MBBS from National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1976 and his Diploma in Psychological Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians London in 1982. Dr Lim attained his Master of Medicine in Psychiatry in 1986 and was conferred fellowship with the Academy of Medicine of Singapore in 1988.

Dr Lim has over four decades of experience in psychiatry, having served in both public and private sectors. He was previously a Consultant at Woodbridge Hospital, where he headed the Alcohol Treatment Unit. He has also served as a Visiting Consultant to Singapore General Hospital and the Institute of Mental Health, and was a Forensic Psychiatrist for the Singapore Changi Prison. He has been involved in employee assistance programme services within Raffles Medical Group, including the development of crisis management programmes and mental wellness initiatives for corporate organisations. In addition, Dr Lim has been involved in teaching as a Clinical Teacher with the Department of Psychiatry, NUS, Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Department of Psychology, and lecturer for the M Med courses in Psychiatry and Public Health at NUS.

Dr Lim has contributed to psychiatric practice and education in Singapore through authoring and contributing to publications on mental health and addiction. His publications include book chapters in “Drug Abuse in Singapore” and a chapter on drug use in the textbook “Psychiatry for Doctors and Medical Students”, as well as a book titled “The Hurting Heart”.

He has held professional roles, including President of the Singapore Psychiatric Association and Vice-Chairman of the Academy of Medicine’s Psychiatric Chapter. He has also served on national and professional committees, including the Inhalant Abuse Review Committee and the Advisory Committee on Drug Rehabilitation under the Ministry of Home Affairs, and was a member of the task force for the rehabilitation programme for drug inmates at Changi Prison.

Dr Lim has held roles as council member of the National Council on Problem Gambling, a member of the expert panel for the Family and Subordinate Courts, and a member of the Clinical Advisory on Mental Illness at the Ministry of Health. He was also an International Fellow at the University of Minnesota Chemical Dependency Department, USA.

Dr Lim’s clinical interests include general psychiatry, alcohol-related issues, stress-related conditions (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), and civil competencies such as Lasting Power of Attorney and testamentary capacities.
