Profile:
Dr Heng Li Wei is a Specialist in Ophthalmology with advanced training in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery. She graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2003 and obtained her Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology in 2008. She attained her Fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Ophthalmology in 2013 and is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. In the same year, Dr Heng was awarded the Singapore Ministry of Health Manpower Development Plan scholarship and subsequently underwent a 12-month clinical fellowship at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She completed her Fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive and Orbital Surgery under the mentorship of Clinical Assistant Professor Yasser Khan and Professor John Harvey.
Prior to joining Raffles Hospital, Dr Heng was a Senior Consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). She played an active role in teaching the ophthalmology residents at TTSH, and enjoyed being able to impart her knowledge and surgical skills to them. In addition, she has also been actively involved in teaching medical students from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.
Dr Heng’s clinical expertise encompasses a wide range of conditions, such as managing ptosis, eyelid malposition, trichiasis, chalazion, eyelid infections and tumours, tearing due to nasolacrimal duct obstruction and punctal stenosis, or lacrimal-related infections such as dacryocystitis, dacryoadenitis, and canaliculitis. In addition, she manages common orbital disorders such as thyroid eye disease, orbital tumours, or proptosis due to various underlying etiologies. She also manages common paediatric oculoplastic conditions such as congenital ptosis, epiblepharon, and dermoid cysts. Apart from her oculoplastic practice, Dr Heng is well-versed in general and comprehensive ophthalmology, including common conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, floaters, and dry eyes. She is also experienced in cataract surgery, including the implantation of multifocal and toric intraocular lenses.
