Profile:

Dr Tay Lai Hock Alphonsus is a Periodontist (Gum Specialist). In 1992, Dr Tay attained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He went on to pursue his studies, receiving his Master of Science in Periodontology from the Eastman Dental Institute, University of London in 1995 and a Graduate Diploma in Dental Implantology from NUS in 2009.

Dr Tay has been in private practice since 1996 and has held many secondary appointments. He was a visiting specialist in periodontics for the Singapore Armed Forces. Thereafter, he worked as a visiting specialist in periodontics at Jurong Health Services – National University Health System, before committing as a visiting consultant for them.

With decades of experience and opportunities, where he held adjunct teaching appointments, Dr Tay actively contributes to dental education at the Faculty of Dentistry, NUS. In his previous role, he taught in both undergraduate and post-graduate dental programmes. Now, as an adjunct associate professor, Dr Tay is involved in training post-graduate dentists to either pursue their Master of Dental Surgery (Periodontology) degree or Graduate Diploma in Dental Implantology. Dr Tay also serves on NUS MDS (Periodontology) Specialist Committee and sits on the Singapore Dental Council Dental Specialist Accreditation Committee (Periodontics).

Dr Tay’s expertise is in contemporary periodontal and dental implantology techniques. Additionally, he also practises a wide scope of general dentistry for adults. He is passionate about his work and has helped many maintain their natural teeth and existing dental implants for a long while.
