Profile:
Dr Joshua Kua is a Specialist in Psychiatry and Senior Consultant. He completed his basic and advanced psychiatric training in 2001. In the same year, he received his specialist accreditation in psychiatry as well as his post-graduate diploma (with distinction) in psychotherapy. Dr Kua completed his sub-specialty training in geriatric psychiatry at St George’s Aged Psychiatry Service and psycho-oncology at Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute in Australia in 2003. He was Chief of the Department of Geriatric Psychiatry at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) from 2008 to 2012.
Dr Kua’s clinical interests include geriatric psychiatry, mental capacity assessment, men’s mental health issues, stress, sleep problems, anxiety, depression, and grief.
Dr Kua was previously a Visiting Consultant for the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC). He was in various Ministry of Health committees for mental health issues as well as in the development of the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Benzodiazepines Prescription (2008) and Dementia (2011). He was previously a clinical lecturer for the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore and examiner for the Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) Examinations.
Dr Kua won the research prize at the ASEAN Congress of Psychiatry Meeting in 2001, and was awarded the Healthcare Humanity Award in 2012.
