Adult psychiatry (especially men’s mental health issues such as stress, insomnia, depression, anxiety and psychosis), geriatric psychiatry (including cognitive and memory problems), medico-legal issues (especially mental capacity assessment)

Profile:

Dr Kua is a Psychiatrist and a Consultant from RH Counselling Centre. He did his basic and advanced psychiatric training from 1994 to 2001. In 2001, he received specialist accreditation in psychiatry. He completed sub-specialty training in geriatric psychiatry at St George’s Aged Psychiatry Service and psycho-oncology at Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute in Australia from 2002 to 2003. He was Chief of the Department of Geriatric Psychiatry at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) from 2008-2012. Dr Kua also has a special interest in men’s mental health issues.

Dr Kua is currently a Visiting Consultant to the Caregiving and Community Mental Health Division of the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC). He was in various ministry-level committees with the Ministry of Health. He was involved in the development of the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Benzodiazepines Prescription (2008) and Dementia (2011). He was previously Clinical Lecturer for the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at NUS and Examiner for the Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) Examinations. In 2001, he won the research prize at the ASEAN Congress of Psychiatry Meeting. In 2012, he was awarded the Healthcare Humanity Award.
