Measles: Symptoms, CDA Protocols and Vaccination
Why the concern?
- Measles is one of the most contagious viral infections. With increased activity reported in Singapore, reviewing your immunity status is recommended.
- Measles spreads through respiratory droplets before a rash even appears.
- Measles can stay in the air for up to 2 hours.
In line with the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA)’s recent update on increased measles activity in Singapore, we urge all patients, corporate partners, and travellers to review their immunity status.
Measles is one of the most contagious viral infections known, with a single case potentially infecting up to 18 non-immune individuals. With 23 cases reported in the first quarter of 2026, proactive prevention is our primary line of defence.
Clinical indicators: Recognising the symptoms
The “3 Cs” (Cough, Coryza or runny nose, and Conjunctivitis or red eyes) typically precede the characteristic rash. If you experience these symptoms alongside a high fever:
- Do not walk into a clinic unannounced
- Do call your preferred Raffles Medical clinic or use the Raffles Connect app for a teleconsultation to receive guidance on safe physical assessment
Updated CDA protocols for 2026
Raffles Medical strictly adheres to the enhanced CDA measures effective from 1 April 2026.
Mandatory notification: All suspected cases must be reported to the CDA immediately.
Isolation policy: Confirmed cases will be issued a mandatory Isolation Order under the Infectious Diseases Act.
Close contacts: Non-immune close contacts will be offered post-exposure prophylaxis to reduce their risk of infection and prevent further transmission.
Workplace restrictions: These non-immune close contacts working in high-risk sectors (e.g. healthcare, education, and eldercare) will also be subjected to additional precautionary measures. These may include a leave of absence from childcare centres and redeployment to non-patient-facing roles within healthcare settings, for up to 21 days from their last known exposure.

Advice for vulnerable groups
Expectant mothers: The MMR vaccine is a live-attenuated vaccine and cannot be administered during pregnancy. If you are planning to conceive, you should wait one month after receiving the MMR vaccine before attempting to become pregnant
- Infants (six to 11 months): While the first scheduled dose is at 12 months, parents travelling to outbreak areas should consult our paediatricians at Raffles Children’s Centre regarding an early “zero dose”
